Senior photo season is almost here! The best way to avoid stress is to plan ahead and have a few easy tips in mind to make sure everything flows the way it should.
As the months and weeks pass and you’re enjoying your final summer as a high school student, there are a few things to check off your photo to-do list. Job number one is to get an idea of the style of photography that most aligns with your unique personality. This should come even before you’ve chosen a photographer. Why? Photography is an art, and every photographer sees the world in their own special way. By deciding ahead of time what style you gravitate towards, you can choose a photographer whose work best matches your preferred look. Spend some time on social media getting an idea of what draws you, and then find a photographer to match.
Speaking of social media, start a Pinterest mood board! A mood board is a great way to quickly communicate to your photographer exactly what you’re hoping to achieve. Often, just the act of creating one can help you narrow down what feels right to you.
Once you have your chosen day and time locked in, it’s time to talk outfits and locations! These two go hand-in-hand, and you and your photographer can work together to decide which outfits will best fit the vibe of your chosen locations. You’ll also discuss how timing will affect location choices, such as saving that beautiful flower field for golden hour. Above all, don’t stress it out alone! Really take advantage of your photographer’s knowledge of what photographs well. This is where that Pinterest mood board can really come in handy!
Next up would be making an appointment for hair and makeup. These are photos you’ll be treasuring forever, so the extra investment really is worth it. Nerves are real, and having hair and makeup handled can help you feel relaxed and confident. Feel free to reach out for recommendations if you’d like! Just remember to mention to your hair and makeup artist at the time of booking that this is for your senior photoshoot and is somewhat weather dependent. Be sure to find out their cancelation/rescheduling policy ahead of time.
If at all possible, keep your schedule open and low-key the day of your photo shoot, and get plenty of rest the night before. Some water and a snack or two will keep you feeling hydrated and fueled and are a great idea to have along as well. The goal is to arrive at your photoshoot feeling relaxed and ready to have fun! Remember, this is a day about so much more than photos. It’s a day to reflect on the memories made over the past three years and the ones to come as you complete your senior year. Your investment in your senior photo experience will result in treasured photos that will bring back a time in your life that is never to be repeated. It’s time to celebrate!
