The date is chosen. The location is chosen. Now for the biggest decision of them all! What do I wear?
The first thing to know actually makes your decision so much easier! Matching is not only not necessary, but not recommended. We want outfits to look coordinated, but not matching exactly. What does coordinated mean? Outfit colors are in the same family or across from each other on the color wheel. Choose two to three colors that work well together, and you’re halfway there!
You’ve probably heard it said that patterns are a no-no for portraits. That’s true, but not the whole story. Well-chosen patterns can add visual interest if not overdone. Stay away from very tiny patterns, and as a general rule, one or two people (depending on group size) wearing a pattern is enough. Make sure they are not overly busy and that the colors coordinate and you’re good to go!
If you’re not comfortable and confident in what you wear, it will show in your face and in how you remember the experience. I love to have clients interact with one another in natural ways, and that often requires movement, so be sure that what you wear is comfortable enough for you to feel free to be yourself and express the love you have for one another. Avoiding overly trendy looks will help us create timeless photos you will treasure in the years to come!
And that’s it! Keep it simple and don’t stress, and remember that your session includes expert guidance to make sure you look and feel your best. Send me your ideas, and we’ll talk it through together!
